Honoring Bruce Jones: A Quiet but Pivotal Voice in Our Project
Our very first interview for Boardroom: Legends of Surfboard Shaping was with Bruce Jones, a name revered in the world of surfboard shaping. While his on-screen role in the final edit may have been smaller, his contributions behind the scenes were nothing short of monumental. Bruce’s deep knowledge and firsthand experience laid the foundation for many of the stories we explored in the film, providing context and insight that enriched the narrative immeasurably.
Bruce Jones was a master craftsman and a cornerstone of surf culture. His shaping career, spanning decades, influenced countless surfers and shapers alike. His boards were more than just tools—they were works of art, carefully designed to elevate the surfing experience.
During our interview, Bruce shared not only his own journey but also his perspective on the evolution of surfboard shaping and the legends who defined the craft. His ability to weave technical expertise with personal anecdotes offered us a unique lens through which to view the history and artistry of shaping. It was a privilege to hear him speak with such humility and reverence for the craft he loved.
Although Bruce is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through the stories he helped tell and the surfers who continue to ride his boards. His presence in Boardroom may be subtle, but his impact resonates throughout the entire film.
